Hiking in Cape Town and surrounds is much more than just going for a walk in nature. In this part of the world, the weather can change at the drop of a hat and the terrain can be tricky to handle at times. Bringing the right gear, enough water, wearing the right clothes, and packing all essentials are incredibly important. To make things easier for you, we have compiled a hiking pack list with all necessities you will need.
Please wear comfortable and breathable clothing (no jeans) and walking shoes with a good grip. No flip-flops and dress up shoes!
Cape Town's weather can change fast, meaning a rain gear and a warm top or jacket are a must when hiking, also in summer.
Pack 1 litre of water for short hikes, 2 litres for long hikes, enough snacks (nuts, fruit, chocolate bars, etc) and a plastic bag for your litter.
Pack a cap, sun hat and sunglasses, as well as a sunscreen with a high SPF (30 and up). A beanie and gloves are key in winter/autumn.
Pack a fully-charged phone and your camera to record your hiking adventure for friends and family back home
Consider packing some emergency rations and an extra top in case you get wet or cold. Nature and the weather can be unpredictable.
