Kasteelspoort

Kasteelspoort (5 hours)

The easiest route to get to the top of Table Mountain from Camps Bay side. The views along the 12 Apostles route are worth the long trek with a pit-stop on Breakfast Rock and wind-dependent, the now Instagram worthy Surfboard. But please note not to take life-threatening poses! We can either walk to the Cable Car take Woody Ravine down.

Quirky facts

Kasteelspoort (Castle Gate) is home to remnants of the old cable way system that was used to ship supplies for the construction of the five water reservoirs on top of Table Mountain in the 1800s. These dams once supplied the whole of Cape Town with water.

Water for the City

Up until the 1880s, Cape Town depended on a single mountain stream for its water. Drought forced hydraulic engineers to build a tunnel through the Twelve Apostles to capture the water of the Disa River, a perennial mountain stream that originated on top of the mountain. This water was transported to the city centre’s Molteno Reservoir via a large duct running along what is known today as the pipe track.

Rates

The price for this hike is R1650pp, depending on whether we are hiking or taking the Cable Car down which is an additional R280pp.

Discounted rates apply for groups of 5 people or more.

Very Important Information

Please note that the weather in Cape Town can change fast (she was called Cape of Storms for a reason). Please ensure you wear comfortable breathable clothes and walking shoes with a good grip (flip-flops, heels, and fashion sandals are not allowed).
