India Venster
India Venster (3 hours up, one-way)
India Venster boasts phenomenal city and ocean views on a clear day, and exciting scrambles if you are looking for an adventure. En route, you may even spot some rock climbers and abseilers, maybe a Tahr and a variety of our indigenous fynbos. The route down would either be Platteklip Gorge, Cable Car or after I assessed you, the same way down.
Quirky facts
The India Venster trail on Table Mountain gets is name from the ravine that is shaped like the Indian subcontinent. The “Venster” (window in Afrikaans) is attributed to a viewpoint framed like a window by massive rocks.
Himalayan escape artists
Besides Rock Hyraxes or Dassies, Mongooses and a variety of birds you may spot a Tahr or two if you are lucky. This species of mountain goats is indigenous to the Himalayas. A number of them escaped from the Groote Schuur Zoo, which used to be situated on the lower slopes of Devil's Peak, in 1936, makingTable Mountain their new home.
